We hope to tether together opportunities with global partners to illuminate our post-industrial beacon’s shadows and allocate cultural resources to a city in need. The goal is to create culturally relevant programming in dialog with the global contemporary art world while engaging regional histories and shared experiences. FR MoCA seeks to make decisions based on the city’s excellent and diverse social ecology, providing time and space for the existing communities and future residents of Fall River and the greater south coast region.

There are many ghosts In Fall River. Some of these ghosts we know are stories of people. Some of these ghosts are structural and economic. And one ghost carries the namesake of the city: the waterfall which Initially made this location so appealing to settlers. A once magnificent body of nature so powerful and strong - that our first engines and turbines ran off It. Then Fall River’s Industry grew to envelope this being. Never to be seen again. A projection of a waterfall on Fall River’s City Hall to be seen from west-bound traffic on 195, as well as a pedestrian view on the west wall of City Hall. This apparition will offer its benediction of infinite water over the heads of passersby. It is a brief appearance of just one of Fall River’s many ghosts whose name we intone nearly every day.

10 AM — PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION
At a time and climate where the topic of immigration penetrates every corner—we find it fitting that the site of FABRIC lands in Fall River, Massachusetts, who’s rich history is steeped in social activism, changing borders, migration and free labor immigrants. Fall River has become a conduit and home to the Portuguese (Azores). It took on the same role for the Irish and French Canadians before that and is becoming more and more inviting to the Puerto Rican community seeking refuge from natural disasters in recent years. We look to FABRIC as an opportunity to create real human interaction through dynamic placemaking and programming. Development of a hub for play, understanding, dialogue, sharing and exchange, and to celebrate our differences and find common ground among our similarities. As we move into different geographic spaces, we wish to ask questions of what it means to be accepted, to be alien, to be local, to belong. We seek to blur ideas of territory in hopes to uplift and find elbow room for self and others. In our current times of social distancing, our conversations have moved increasingly towards the internet realm. Post Discussion seeks to promote and inspire visitors to hold healthy real-world conversations with each other.

FREE ADMISSION. THE INSTALLATION WILL REMAIN AS PART OF THE QUEQUECHAN RIVER TRAIL.

10 AM WALK #1 - Greetings from Fall River
A walk through old postcards of Fall River GUIDED BY PATTI REGO from We Love Fall River
In this walk, the public is taken through the city center in a visit through the same spots portrayed by old postcards from Fall River and challenged to take part as figures in making new postcards on the very same locations.

11 AM WALK #2 - See through my Voices, Smell Through my Eyes FULLY BOOKED
A sensorial deambulation through the nature along the Quequechan River Trail GUIDED BY RHONDA FAZIO
The Quequechan River Trail is considered a fresh breath of Nature in Fall River, cherished by locals as a place for leisure and drifting, as a vivid fauna and flora cohabit in its surrounding wetlands. How far has one to go to be out of somewhere? How do our eyes and ears interact in the selection of the world we perceive? How much fiction there is in the landscape we experience? Using a varied set of perspectives, memories and histories, Rhonda guides us through the landscape we see and the ground we step upon in a synesthetic and poetic deambulation.

11:30 AM WALK #3 As Water Falls FULLY BOOKED
Re-imagining, re-staging, re-enacting the waterfalls of Fall River GUIDED BY COREY NUFFER
In 1962, part of Fall River’s old city center was demolished to make way for Interstate 195 and the new Government Center. Yet, the city’s urban transformations go away back in its history, much before the sixties, to a time there were many waterfalls in the Quequechan River (‘water that falls, that leaps’ in Wampanoag language). How did these famous waterfalls that named the city of Fall River used to look like? With this curiosity in mind, this walk challenges the participants to imagine these long-gone waterfalls freely. Using any as many means as we might fancy - Corey Nuffer guides us through a playful path inhabited by games, dioramas, building structures, miniatures, graffiti and plenty of imagination.
